Emap Consumer Media to launch GRAZIA
25th October 2004
Emap Consumer Media (ECM) is to launch Grazia, Britain’s first weekly glossy, in Spring 2005.
Grazia will transform the women’s glossy market by offering readers and advertisers glamour, gossip and style every week.
Paul Keenan, Chief Executive of ECM, commented:
“Grazia is ground breaking and innovative and right for Britain’s discerning, stylish women.
“From Spring 2005 women won’t have to wait a whole month for their glossy fix. For those who need to know what’s hot right now in fashion and life in general – Grazia will be both gorgeous and compelling”.
“In today’s culture, when immediacy is demanded and value for time desired, Grazia will be the most modern glossy in Britain.”
ECM anticipates Grazia will sell in excess of 150,000 copies weekly in its first year, making it a significant new title on the newsstands. ECM will invest up to £16 million to take the title to breakeven.
It will uniquely offer advertisers a glossy, paid-for package with strong reach and frequency – ensuring it delivers both brand building and tactical communication.
ECM has secured a license for the title from Italy’s market leading publisher Mondadori. Grazia was launched in Italy in 1938 and is acclaimed as one of Europe’s leading fashion weeklies. Edited by Carla Vanni, the Italian GRAZIA is Italy’s most prestigious women’s weekly. Its impeccable fashion credentials, calibre and knowledge of what modern women want will help the title quickly establish a winning personality in Britain.
The Grazia business in the UK will be led by ECM’s David Davies as Managing Director and Fiona McIntosh as Editor-in-Chief. Abby Carvosso is Publisher, Anne-Marie Lavan Head Of Marketing and Helen Lederer Business Director.
Paul Keenan added:
“This team has a strong track record of launching and publishing desirable glossy women’s magazines. What we are doing here is important because it is innovative and bold. It will grow the market and bring something new to readers and advertisers. Grazia will be a key part of ECM’s women’s magazine portfolio complementing heat, Closer, Pop, New Woman, Top Santé and more.”
