Future Publishing acquires What Laptop magazine
1st December 2004
Future Publishing today announces that it has acquired What Laptop magazine from Crimson Publishing Limited for £0.65m.
What Laptop is the UK's leading portable computing monthly magazine with a current ABC of 25,107. Launched in September 1999, the magazine quickly established itself as sector leader and has retained this position ever since. The title will be published by Future’s Technology Group, whose portfolio includes PC Plus, PC Format, T3 and Microsoft Windows XP: The Official Magazine.
Commenting on the purchase, Dom Beaven, Publishing Director of Future’s Technology Group says: “We're delighted to be bringing What Laptop into the UK's biggest selling technology magazine portfolio here at Future. The team have done a great job with the magazine since its launch and have maintained sector leadership throughout that time. It’s a great magazine and fits well within the portfolio as an important part of our growth strategy.”
The first issue published by Future will be the February 2005 issue, which goes on sale in January 2005. No major changes are planned for the editorial content, although Future’s strong newsstand presence and good advertiser relationships should help to improve sales further. Future anticipates that all of the existing team will move across with the magazine to Future's London offices. What Laptop had a turnover for the year ended 30 Sept 2004 of £0.8m and the profit attributable to it was £0.2m. The title has a cover price of £3.99.
