3rd February 2005
SFX, Europe’s best-selling SF and fantasy magazine, is celebrating its tenth anniversary and what promises to be an exciting 12 months for the genre with a fresh new look, new features and a new attitude.
The revamped SFX goes on sale from Wednesday, February 16 with new Doctor Who stars Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston on the cover just weeks before the eagerly-awaited return of the show to TV screens.
The rebirth of TV’s favourite time traveller isn’t the only big SF news story for 2005, which promises to be a fantastic year for the genre. Great new shows TV coming to the UK include American ratings winners like Lost and The 4400. There is also a wealth of blockbuster movies due to hit the big screen this year, including the final Star Wars film, Revenge Of The Sith, and War Of The Worlds, the most expensive film ever made. SFX is the only magazine that will cover all this excitement.
SFX’s new look gives the magazine a contemporary style that reflects the changes in the genre over the past 10 years and ensures the magazine maintains its position at the cutting edge of specialist magazines. It will continue to deliver the very best sci-fi film, TV, book and comic coverage in the market by bringing the biggest names into the title but will also provide an increased number of shorter features and star profiles. Responding to reader demand a new section devoted to the Japanese animation style, anime, will be introduced and a revamped reviews section will offer greater reader interaction and be even more comprehensive. Finally, every issue will feature double-sided posters featuring the biggest stars, films or shows.
Mike Lamond is Publisher of SFX:
“We’ve given SFX a great new look to celebrate a decade at the top and the fact that 2005 promises to be the best ever for SF TV and film. SF is not only for serious fans – the huge success of TV shows like Lost, Battlestar Galactica and Sea Of Souls has clearly proved this, while the top end of the movie charts in recent years have been dominated by SF and fantasy movies.
"SFX has always had a fantastically witty and passionate editorial style that hasn’t been afraid to poke fun at itself but has also been willing to stand up as a voice for all fans the new look gives us an even better platform to demonstrate this.”
The new look SFX, issue 128, goes on sale Thursday 16th February, with a cover price of £3.75. The magazine also includes a special covermounted booklet – Masters Of The Universe: The 50 most important people in sci-fi ever which gives a detailed rundown on the movers and shakers who shape and have shaped the industry.
