Newly-Launched MEED projects Online Business Tool
8th September 2004
Up-to-the-minute developments on all of the Middle East’s largest, most high-value industrial projects can now be tracked instantly via the newly launched online service, MEED projects, meaning that companies across the globe can more easily, and more efficiently, compete for and win multimillion US dollar deals announced in the region.
Designed to help organisations identify and stay updated on the latest business opportunities by both country and industry sector, MEED projects is set to transform the way organisations prepare themselves to bid for the region’s most valuable contracts.
Several businesses in the region have already signed up to the service prior to the official launch, including ANZ Investment Bank, Dodsal, Projacs, FTV Proclad, Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC), Consolidated Contractors Intl. Company (CCC), Qatar National Bank, and PWC Logistics. These organisations have already made the MEED projects service an integral part of their business development strategies.
“Being a successful regional project management firm places a prime weight on maintaining competitive advantage. The recent launch of MEED projects is certain to enhance our business development efforts and provide the necessary focus for our business development team,” said Dr Nabil Qaddumi, Chairman of Projacs International.
Using MEED projects, decision-makers can search for projects in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Users can then gain an insight into tenders taking place in industry sectors including Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power, Water & Waste, Construction, and Industry. All key details of major projects are available online, such as value in millions of US dollars, the current project status, and up-to-date contact details for key personnel.
“Drawing on more than 50 years experience working with the Middle East’s most senior decision-makers, we’ve learned that companies in the region are most frustrated by a lack of real-time access to information about new projects – before they are actually awarded,” said Eddie O’Sullivan, Editorial Director of MEED magazine.
To illustrate the size and scope of the new service, details will be listed on at least the 100 biggest projects in each country, with approximately 1000 projects valued over $50 million tracked by the service across the entire GCC, Iran and Iraq.
“With the flexibility to search for new business opportunities by value, status, start and completion date, client or keyword, MEED projects takes much of the guess-work out of prospecting for new projects, and empowers users to be more agile and proactive in business development,” he added.
Analysts at MEED projects anticipate that the opportunities generating the most regional interest initially will include Dubai’s burgeoning construction sector, reconstruction efforts in Iraq, and energy-related initiatives in Saudi Arabia and Iran. The online nature and immediacy of the MEED projects service will enable users in the Middle East to tender more efficiently and will introduce greater transparency to the whole tendering process.
“It is possible to save details of projects and return to them at a later date to see how things are developing and also be notified of any significant changes in the project status. Users can also set up a New Project Alert System, which notifies them immediately when a new project is announced. This puts MEED projects subscribers first in line when it comes to winning the contract,” O’Sullivan continued.
The online information service is updated regularly, drawing on the expertise of a vast team of dedicated MEED projects researchers, as well as the unrivalled connections and knowledge of MEED journalists, who are often the first to be informed about key business developments.
