Stars out in FORCE as Total Film celebrates 100th birthday

24th February 2005

Future’s movie bible, Total Film this month celebrates its milestone 100th issue with a bumper 172-page collectors’ edition. Featuring contributions from the biggest names in film including Jude Law and Martin Scorsese, the front cover is adorned with an exclusive animated Star Wars lenticular, featuring Anakin Skywalker morphing into Darth Vader.

Since February 1997, Total Film has attracted a younger generation of film fans to its lively coverage of movies. In the last year, Total Film has continued to break the biggest movie stories first. Last November, Quentin Tarantino’s exclusive revelation to the title about his next project, a new Kung-fu movie, made headlines worldwide.

The super-sized collectors’ 100th issue leads with a preview of cover film, Star Wars – Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, featuring a first look at new pictures from the movie, as well as fresh interviews with stars Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman, and producer Rick McCallum.

Total Film 100 is also packed with special messages, from friends of the magazine. Tributes come from stars including Angelina Jolie and George Clooney, through to maverick director, Tim Burton, who sent a congratulatory drawing from the set of his new film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Ewan McGregor is crowned Total Film’s first-ever “Actor Of Our Lifetime”, for his stellar rise to Hollywood stardom between 1997 (the year of Total Film’s launch) and 2005. The magazine also announces the “Best Film Of Our Lifetime” as 1999’s Fight Club, in a feature which includes brand new interviews with director David Fincher, stars Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter and Ed Norton – and some exclusive, never-before-seen on- set photography shot by Ed Norton.

Matt Mueller is Editor of Total Film:

“We’ve pulled out the stops to make Total Film 100 our best issue ever. Revenge of the Sith is sure to be the biggest film this year, and we are absolutely delighted to have his striking and very exclusive full-page lenticular cover. Total Film has always focused on bringing film news to readers with our customary humour and interaction, setting the title apart from our competitors. Stars love Total Film and have made the effort to wish us happy birthday. Ed Norton even sent us some of his own photographs when he heard we had made Fight Club the best film of our lifetime.”

Simon Maxwell is Publisher of Total Film:

“This is an important milestone for Total Film magazine and what a way to celebrate with what I think is a UK first – a full front cover lenticular. This perfectly encapsulates what Total Film is all about – celebrating how exciting it is going to the cinema and making an ‘event out of blockbuster releases. The magazine continues to go from strength to strength mirroring the exciting developments that are coming out of Hollywood. Star Wars kicks off what is going to be a bumper year in film with movies like Fantastic Four, Batman, War of the Worlds and King Kong all due in the next six months. We’ve got some fantastic plans for Total Film and look forward to the next 8 years and 100 issues.”

Total Film, issue 100, goes on sale today, with a cover price of £3.40.
